Keep your home safe during your summer holiday

The kids have broken up from school and we are in the peak season of holidays abroad, which means that more than likely your summer trip is up and coming.

Here at The County Group, don’t just stay protected with an excellent travel insurance policy. Use these tips to keep your home secure whilst you are away.

1. Install a home monitoring system

A home monitoring system is a great first step to securing your house, whether you are on holiday or not. You can now download apps on to your phone so you can view a live video remotely off your device.

If the worst were to happen, you’d have video evidence.

2. Leave a key with a friend or family member

Rather than leaving a key hidden outside of your house (e.g. under the door mat or behind a plant pot), give it to a family member or friend.

If you need someone to gain access to the house whilst you are away, ensure this is someone you trust so that the key is in safe hands.

3. Keep a low profile on social media

We know you may be excited to share your photos on your social media accounts, however this can open your house up to potential threat.

If people can see that you are away and your house is vacant, this could lure burglars. Try to upload your photos once you are back off your trip!

4. Keep valuables out of sight

Try to make sure that whilst you’re away, your valuables are out of sight and not visible from windows. Put them away in a safe place.

If someone were to break in, your valuables would not be easy to find and not in plain sight.

5. Take out an excellent home insurance policy

One of the best methods of home protection is an excellent home insurance policy. Review your current policy to ensure that you are covered for anything which could occur whilst you are away.

If you would like a free review of your current policy or a competitive quote at renewal, please get in touch with The County Group.
